Northern Lights Village is located on quiet and private spot right next to vast wilderness, away from the buzz of the areas bigger hotels and resorts. Yet it is conveniently close to Saariselkä village. Just 350 meter walk, and you can find  wide range of services such as supermarket, restaurants, spa, ski resort, bowling alley etc.

Restaurants Kota and Ice Bar & Restaurant

In the Northern Lights Village, you are provided the services of the first-rate and cozy restaurant Kota that specializes in the local foods of Lapland. Kota offers delicacies produced from clean, local ingredients to please even the most demanding taste buds. The Kota restaurant provides all meals from breakfast to dinner.

Build entirely of ice and snow, the Northern Lights Village’s Ice Bar & Restaurant offers a truly unique, arctic dining experience. Ice restaurant dinner menus are prepared in Restaurant Kota and served to ice tables. Ice Bar is guaranteed to keep you drink chilled.

All special diets and allergies are taken into consideration.

Reindeer Paddock

Every morning, the same reindeer comes to greet you at the paddock, with a bell clanging around its neck. The reindeer sticks its muzzle through the fence and gives a snort as a sign of friendship.

You won’t have to go far from the Northern Lights Village to see reindeer as there is a reindeer paddock in the yard. At any time, you are welcome to go see the tame reindeer. You will be sure to get great photos of these cuties to send your friend back home!

Northern Lights Village is a specialist provider of northern nature experiences. Our activities have been designed with more than 20 years of experience of program planning.

We offer wide range of activities for daytime, including day trips, reindeer and husky rides and snowmobile safaris. On our different Aurora Expeditions, you get to travel over the fells and frozen wilderness ponds in a heated sleigh, snowmobile or snow shoes, and  experience the Northern Lights in an unforgettable way.


Photographing the Northern Lights is our passion and in the core of our services. Within your disposal, you will have high quality photography equipment and a guide who will assist you in taking the greatest possible photos of the Northern Lights.  You can also participate in our Northern Lights workshop for photographers .

Our photo excursions and workshops are just as suitable for amateurs as they are for professionals. Of course, taking photos is completely voluntary – you may also choose to focus on enjoying the sights and the nature with all of your senses.



Northern Lights Village was born in 2016 in association of CEO Markku Inkilä and Jouko and Mari Lappalainen. Markku Inkilä is a highly experienced program organizer and a passionate Northern Lights photographer. His photos have been published in the Sunday Times, the Telegraph, and on hundreds of websites around the world. Jouko and Mari Lappalainen specialize in offering high-class buotique accommodation in Northern Lapland. They also run the Nellim Wilderness Hotel and the Wilderness Lodge Muotkan Maja.

People behind Northern Lights Village (previously named Wilderness Safaris Saariselkä) have organized atmospheric nature activities and aurora expeditions for more than 20 years. Our specialty is the hunting and photographing of the Northern Lights. All of our guides are experienced photographers who can help you take the best possible photos of the Northern Lights.
